PEACE OF MIND - DINNER PARTY
This record comes from a culmination of super-producers 9th Wonder, Terrace Martin, Robert Glasper, and Kamasi Washington. As much as I am a fan of every individual, I had no idea they formed a group and had already put out projects under the moniker The Dinner Party (SHAME ON ME!!!).
My song pick of the week comes from their latest release, “Whatchu Bringing,” which is the last track on the album titled Peace of Mind. Nothing short of an instrumental masterpiece, from the keys to the horns to the saxophone, along with what sounds like a vocal sample from the alternative band Hiatus Kaiyote(another band I am a fan of).
I, for the life of me, cannot stop playing this record. It’s the perfect example of everybody showing up for the assignment and doing their part.

BLACK BOY (ALTERNATIVE) - DAHI
The first full-length album from producer extraordinaire Dahi, whose credits include Kendrick Lamar, Vince Staples, Childish Gambino, and more, Black Boy (Alternative) features appearances from all of the above.
With Dahi being one of my favorite producers, I have to be honest and admit that I had pretty high expectations and hoped that his first album would be good. He did not disappoint.
The entire project is very cohesive, with standouts such as “Who Are You,” “How to Pray,” “Running,” and “Drowning,” the latter being my personal favorite. This album gives off a unique, refreshing, light-spirited atmosphere that flows into each track very well.
All of the features are well placed, almost as if it’s not a producer album, but rather an array of characters in a short film, each telling their part of the story.
Congratulations to Dahi for making that leap of faith and giving us a great body of work.
